数据显示，全世界每年约有135.1万人死于肺癌，而在肺癌患者中约80%的患者为非小细胞肺癌（NSCLC），且首诊多为晚期难以治愈肺癌。      

总部位于德国达姆施塔特的Merck  KgaA公司旗下的默克雪兰诺日前宣布，将在中国、中国香港、韩国、新加坡和中国台湾的NSCLC患者中，启动一项名为INSPIRE的有关治疗性癌症疫苗Stimuvax（BLP25脂质体疫苗）的Ⅲ期临床研究，该研究将评价Stimuvax是否能够延长患有不可切除的Ⅲ期非小细胞肺癌的亚洲患者的总生存期。预计约420名患者将参与这项研究，目前该研究已在香港启动。香港大学临床肿瘤部教授Tony  Mok表示，Ⅲ期肺癌的死亡率很高，仍有相当大的治疗需求尚未得到满足。在亚洲，肺癌的发病率呈上升趋势，而且亚洲患者的遗传学特征在非小细胞肺癌当中具有特殊性。因此，INSPIRE研究的启动具有重要意义。

Expected to be approximately 420 patients will participate in this study, the research has now launched in Hong Kong.
